Day Three of sucking it up
Affiliates, Writing and Research
Spent an abominable amount of time researching the other tools out there which deliver a similar outcome as I plan to do with allymatter.com. There are obviously multiple ways you can deliver a knowledge base - ones that come with an existing tool (say part of the HRMS), that which are built to be standalone ones say a gitbook.com but are for a different user type (say developers), ones which are truly built to be great knowledge bases and the ones which exist to let you design how you want to do it (mkdocs.org). There are others which treat the documentation tool aspect as an after thought since they deliver value in a different form (a few of them via training and LMSs built on the knowledge base)
Some are very well funded, which doesn’t bother me (hah!). Some have been in operation since a very long time (in internet years though) and some which seem to have absolutely great customer reviews.
I spent a lot of time understanding what makes each of them great, good or bad. I will write a big listicle and put it on the blog in the next few days once I finish it but it seems to be a great market that has space for another player.
New blog post design has moved to a new instance (site?) on WebFlow and WebFlow charged me again for adding a damn user. That’s two days out of the last three that I have spent money.
I will add a new rule not to spend any more money for the next seven days no matter what happens. Let’s see how that goes.
Helped three people on public forums to help them build their knowledge bases, even if they probably would choose a competitor. I am sure that getting them to build a great knowledge management system helps more people than with a non-existent solution. That will change soon though, I will continue to help people get to the right tool and the correct outcomes even if it means a competitor, but when possible will shill my own tool.
Another day without listening to music, but a great 5 KM walk listening to the end of this audio book.
Bone chilling book.
Cheers then,
Sid
